Facelift

A facelift, also called a rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that enhances the cosmetic appearance of the face. When performed by an experienced plastic surgeon, it can completely revitalize your appearance and provide results that last for years. As you age into your 30s and 40s, the natural elasticity of our skin diminishes. This results in fine lines and wrinkles, sagging skin, and a tired, aged appearance. A rhytidectomy offers many benefits by revitalizing the cosmetic appearance of the face and neck, including boosting your confidence and acts as a preventative measure, especially if our career is linked to your physical appearance. A Facelift offers a more permanent solution. Some patients may be frustrated with the temporary nature of fillers and non-surgical treatments.

With increasing age, there is a progressive laxity of the skin and underlying tissues such as fat, connective tissue, and musculature. This may result in a disturbance of the jawline and laxity of the neck resulting in the so-called double chin deformity. Sometimes a small procedure can be performed, the incision is under the chin and after liposculpture, the neck muscles are tightened. The correction can be obtained in daycare surgery. For one week after surgery, the clients have to wear a compression garment. In more severe cases a facelift procedure is needed to provide the optimal result.

What to Expect

On the day of your surgery, you will be welcomed into the Right Face Center and prepared for your procedure. Dr Beekman will see you before surgery and put specific markings that are unique to you. For the surgery itself, you will be asleep with sedation anaesthesia. Dr Beekman is meticulous and will ensure that he takes the time and care to complete your surgery to allow for invisible scars and minimal downtime.

The length of recovery will depend on which surgery or treatment has been completed. However, you can expect to have a period of rest and recovery of approximately one to two weeks, and return to social and professional activities after one to three weeks.

You may experience bruising, which resolves over one to two weeks, and swelling, of which 80% will diminish within two weeks and continue to disappear. While you will have very little pain, you may experience numbness around the ears and chin, which can take six to 12 months to disappear completely.

Are all my wrinkles gone after a Facelift procedure?

There are al lot of variable skin conditions with any candidates eligible for a facelift. In a few cases, the structure of the skin is quite poor and will not be corrected by a facelift procedure only. After the initial healing process after a face lift, an ancillary procedure is needed i.e. with a injectable touch up or a peeling procedure, to optimize the end result.

Will I have visible scars?

Where possible, Dr Breekman hides incisions within the natural creases in the face, 99% of scars are virtually unvisible in recovering after surgery.
