Double Chin Liposuction Treatment

Chin liposuction is performed under local anesthesia or under general anesthesia combined with , for example, a rhinoplasty surgery. Tumescent liposuction of the chin is performed by locally numbing the area with a blunt-tipped cannula. The local anesthesia contains lidocaine to numb the area and a small amount of epinephrine to constrict the blood vessels, so there is no bleeding. The tumescent liposuction technique is much gentler than traditional liposuction methods and causes far less bruising in most cases.
Vaser ultrasound assisted liposuction is used to easily remove the fat with additional skin contraction, better contouring and less bruising and swelling compared with traditional liposuction.
Additional radio-frequency assisted skin tightening during the procedure may be performed in case of reduced skin elasticity.
The chin contour is improved in two ways: volume reduction and tissue tightening. After the fat has been removed, a compression garment (pressure) allows the skin to ‘shrink’ and redrape to the new contour of the chin.

Is the procedure comfortable?

We keep our patients comfortable with local anesthesia or general anesthesia in case of combined surgeries. Clients will receive additional pain medication after discharge from the hospital in case of discomfort which is in general mild.

How fast will I see results from chin liposuction?

You may notice some some swelling and bruising during the first 2 to 3 weeks. Once the swelling and bruising are gone, the results will be more evident. The healing process that occurs over the next six months following chin liposuction, is skin tightening. This tightening can smooth the chin.
Final tightening may take up to 6 months and will continue to improve over the next year. We will closely follow your progress to ensure a smooth recovery.

How long does the tumescent chin liposuction procedure take?

Chin and neck liposuction may take anywhere from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours.

How many sessions of chin liposuction do I need?

Patients enjoy the benefits of chin liposuction for many years. Chin Liposuction is permanent and you should only need it once.

Who are ideal candidates for chin liposuction?

Great candidates for Chin Liposuction are people that have:

  • Isolated fat deposits under the chin or double chin
  • Fat that does not go away with diet or exercise
  • Lack of pleasing neck definition

How do I prepare for my chin liposuction?

Patients should avoid smoking, eat a healthy diet, and engage in regular exercise prior to their procedure. These efforts will help promote healing. Those who are taking blood pressure medications should have their hypertension under control before undergoing liposuction. Blood thinners, such as Ibuprofen, Advil, aspirin, and Aleve should be avoided for 10 days prior to surgery.

Before undergoing chin liposuction, patients should meet with Dr. Loonen first for a consultation. At this consultation, an examination of the patient’s chin, an assessment of the patient’s health, and a discussion of what the patient can expect from their individual procedure will be thoroughly reviewed and discussed. Results will vary from patient to patient and depend largely upon the chin’s appearance prior to treatment.
